I've heard its good to disconnect the fuel line and run a two stroke until it stops after use to stop the jets from getting gummed up. I have also read on this forum that this can damage your fuel pump... whats correct for an oldish Yamy 9.9?

Run it dry for long periods of lay up when the fuel in the carbs will evaporate or go stale. I use my 9.9 daily in the summer season and just turn off the key when done for the day and fire it up again the next. The most important thing with any small 4 stroke is to have a good inline fuel/water seperator filter installed. Keep the fuel clean and you'll save yourself the hassle of cleaning the carbs.
