OVERHEATING AT HIGH RPM

"just bought this sea ray with a 350 merc in it, this engine runs all day long with the ears on it at home, runs good at low rpm as soon as i try to bring it up on plane it will over heat. boat does not have temp gauge with #'s so I dont know just how hot.I did try an experiment and put the outdrive in water bucket and it did not seem to be circulating water, with the ears on it shoots out from the prop[ and by the gimble, is this normal and what can I try to rectify problem"

"I would get a handle on actual temps. You don't want to overheat it and do major damage.

Is it raw water cooled or fresh water cooled?
FWC has a tubular heat exchanger and antifreeze/coolant, by the way.

You may have a couple teeth missing from the water pump in the drive.

You may have a partially stopped up heat exchanger if it is FWC.

You may have a circulation problem elsewhere."

A Complete water pump Kit might be the Best Option..."

Water hose and muffs are pressurizing the cooling system. Follow the advice given by the knowledgeable gents and you'll fix the problem.
