"After a discussion with some

"After a discussion with some of my friends am a little bit thoughtful.
We were talking about horsepower in Mercruiser engines.
I have a Mercruiser (GM) 4,3L 1996 thunderbolt ignition 2bbl and Alfa1. It´s printed VORTEC on the "valve cover". I have looked at the net and can find ratings between 160 to 223hp.
The boat i have is a Regal 202SC Valanti a it´s ran 49mph WOT 4700rpm. The prop is merc black max 23". The boat weigh 2900lbs empty.
Can anybody here help me in my argumentation against my "friends" ?
If you need more info let me know!!!

Ohhh Sorry !!

About how many horsepower i have in my machine

For 1996 the 4.3L (2 bbl) was rated at 160 hp; and the 4.3LX (4 bbl) was rated at 180 hp. This is right out of my owners manual for the same model and year.
Hope that helps.
My 4.3LX tops out at 47 mph at 4800 RPM with a 21" pitch High 5 prop on a 20' 4" Blue Water Mirage. So you are doing well to make 49 mph with the 160 hp package.

"The vortex is cast into the intake manifold by GMC. It means that the passageways have spirals in them as they lead from the carb to the inlet port of the valve/head. It was meant to swirl the gas/air mixture. It is a static device with no moving parts. I have a 89 merc 4.3l 2 barrel and the engine is 185hp, that year they offered a 195 with the 4-bbl.

I get 43 MPH on the WOT with a 21 foot Thompson.
