I am in the process of replacing my second velvet drive transmission in my boat. My port tranny went with less than 250 hours and now my starboard transmission is gone with less than 330 hours. These are the 5000 series transmissions built in 1998-99. I bought the boat new and have had it professionally maintained since purchasing it. I have heard that there were some design issues with these transmissions that caused a number of failures with them. Does anyone have any information on this problem? Does anyone know if they have fixed the design issue or am I just putting in more headaches?
