"Gentlemen, Great site!

I have an 89 4.3 Cobra. At low speeds it runs cool, but at higher speeds it gradually climbs toward hot. When I changed the water pump impeller this spring, 2 cogs were missing.

My question is regarding the cooling system routing. Does it flow thru the powersteering cooler first? If so, I'm guessing the cogs are lodged there, partially obstructing flow.

Thanks in advance for your help."

"That's the first place I would look. Also, get into the habit of changing the impeller more often, annually if you put a lot of hours on it."

"I checked the powersteering cooler and there are no obstructions. Is there any place in the outdrive (besides the impeller housing; checked that) where pieces of impeller could lodge?
The 1" lines from the thermostat housing to the exhaust manifolds get warm (not hot), so I assume the thermostat is opening.
Any other ideas to check?
The engine doesn't feel that hot, but the guage runs almost to hot.
Previous owner insists that the guage always ran cool in the past."
