"Thanks to all who responded to my engine overheating issue, I believe the culpret is bad impellars. Out drives are in the shop. Another question...where are the upper water pumps on the 1988 480's? Do I need to pull the engines to replace them? Thanks, Pete in Tampa."
 
"Circulataion pumps are cam dr

"Circulataion pumps are cam driven in the front cover. If they are not leaking you don't want to open that can of worms. These pumps do not have the traditional bushings seals and bearings that you are familiar with. There is a weep hole on the bottom of the front cover to help keep coolant out of the engine if the seal goes bad. Most of the time the seal does not go bad but instead wears a groove in the cam shaft. So, as I said if it's not leaking don't mess with it."
