I have put a new water pump in

I have put a new water pump in each of the 3 times I have recently went to the lake. The new pumps last about 15-20 minutes. When I check the new impellers they are chewed up. When I am replacing the water pumps I clean out the old chewed up rubber in the lower unit intake. I dont understand why this is happing.

Are you replacing the complete

Are you replacing the complete pump housing or just the impeller?
 
Make sure the lower is in gear

Make sure the lower is in gear and spin the prop while putting the upper housing on. If the impellar isn't spun on in the right direction it will chew it up every time.

"I made sure I did that this last time. I turned the shaft clockwise. But if it chews it up if its in the wrong direction, I will have to put that suggestion in the double check it twice box.
