Installing OMC Drive

Let me try this again. I'm new to this board and boats actually. I recently aquired a 1978 Sea Ray with a 190 horse power 302 and OMC electric shift drive.

When I got the boat the lower unit was locked up. I've got parts coming and it should be back together this weekend. My question is this. I have been told that when installing the drive it needs to be lined up or the drive will be ruined when I start it. Is this true? I know some drives do need to be lined up but I really don't see anyway of adjusting this one. It looks like it only goes on one way. Any help would be appreciated.

There is no lining up that i am aware of. I have worked on them many times and had no issues.

Whoever told you that must have been thinking about the newer OMC's Cobra's as they need to be aligned to the engine just like Mercs.
