we got a new boat and it needs

we got a new boat and it needs a new motor but we don't know what motor is in it now. it has all mercruiser labels but on the side it is stamped GM and has the numbers A290. any help on what size motor it is would be great. thanks

The serial number should be on the valve cover. Also it should have the size of the engine on the same sticker.

try looking down the sides where the bell housing
meets the block. It will be STAMPED not raised
numbers. BUT if you know the year of MFG, Number of Cyl. Type of boat. I can hepl you."

"sorry, thought I was looking at volvo. look for a metal tag riveted to the block near starter.this will have the model # to get the info. You need."
