"The enging runs cool, but maybe too cool. It runs at about a constant 160* so I would assume that may be the stat I have in there. I would think that it might run better and at least get a little better fuel economy if it ran about 175. Is this correct??? It is the 225E (Chevy 305).

Thanks!!!"

"You won't notice enough difference in economy with the 175 degree thermostat. The 160 is fine. If the motor has a carb, you may have run-on with a hotter 'stat."

"Chris, I have installed a 160

"Chris, I have installed a 160º in my current project, a 350 ex-AQ311. This is the standard thermostat recommended for Chevy V-8 engines in marine applications, but some go as low as 140º. The original thermostat in my engine was 190º, which I think is too high for the application and it does not allow much margin to react if something goes wrong. I intend to do sea trials in a few days to see how it goes, but I think it will run just fine."
