"Back-Firing !!!!

I have a 2001, Bayliner Ciera / 5.7L EFI engine with a Bravo III sterndrive. 535 hours on it. I have a back-firing problem after being under load for about 45 minutes - hour. Once this starts, the boat continues to back fire intermittantly. At low RPMS after this starts, the engine wants to stall. I noticed the RPM guage is fluctuating between 1K-4K when only going 6KTS.

This leads me to believe it is a temperature / ignition problem. I replaced the spark plugs, plug wires, distrubtor cap & rotor as well as the coil. Regular maintenance included, oil/oil filter change, water-separator filter change, cleaned the flame arrestor, and this year completely replaced the exhaust manifolds/spacers and risers. I just purchased a new ignition sensor that sits in the cup of the distributor in hopes this may fix the problem.

Can anyone help?"
