Trims up but not down

"I have a 70's merc 233-- it trims up okay, but when i try to go down, it "pulses" like its trying to go down, but meeting resistance--any help is appreciated"

"Most likely its air bound and needs to have the bleeding procedure performed, buy a merc manual and follow along, as well check the trim pump oil level"
 
I have found in the past that

I have found in the past that if the vavling in the trim rams (actuator) goes bad it can cause this problem also.
