Outdrive up or Down for Removal

I am thinking of replacing my

I am thinking of replacing my shift cable in my Alpha 1 gen 2 should the outdrive be up or down before removal. Also any tips or things to look for when taking the outdrive off. I have the manual but it is a little vague. Thanks

"Always remove the outdrive with the shifter in full forward, disconnect the speedo fitting, outdrive DOWN to level position. Very dangerous to try to reinstall the trim rams when the outdrive is in the full upright postion. It can fall down on you and really hurt!!!!!

If you have never replace a short shift cable before you will need some special tools and instructions. It is not very easy and the post install adjustments are very critical.
