I just got a boat with a 68 Johnson Electromatic 40 HP and need to know the mix ratio. I have been told 24:1 and 50:1

"I have a 1963 Johnson 40 hp and have owned it for several years. When I purchased the motor, the previous owner advised me that the fuel/oil mix was 50:1. In reading some of your postings I am now thinking that the correct mixture is 24:1. I notice with some motors there is advice that the mixture can be cut down because of the newer 2 cycle oils. Can you advise me what the correct ratio should be? The motor seems to be running fine but I am wondering if I have done any damage by running 50:1."
