"Hi guys , I've been loitering here for a little while and finally decided to register.
Here's a question, I just bought a 1973 SeaRay 19 ft'er, Engine is a Mercrusier 302 V-8 188 HP, with 888 Sterndrive. I was checking somethings out and found that the cooling system does not have a T-Stat in place, should there be one ? The engine is lake water cooled.}"

All engines should have a thermostat, as it keeps the engine at its most efficient operating temperature.
If you don't have one, what temp does your engine run at? The thermostat may have been removed to possibly cover an engine problem.

Bert is correct. Removing a T

Bert is correct. Removing a T stat is a quick and dirty way of hiding a overheating problem.
