Alpha one compatability

I own a 1973 Allmand 23 Ticond

I own a 1973 Allmand 23 Ticonderoga with a 302 Ford. It had an Alpha outdrive but cannot find any serial numbers. I dont know if it works. A friend wants to sell me a like new rebuilt. How can I tell if it is compatable?

If your 1973 Allmand boat still has it's original driveline,...
That would be a 188(unless it's a 4bbl.) motor turning an 888 outdrive...
The 888 outdrive is but 1 of the Many names for the Pre-Alpha outdrives....
Basically, a Model 1, or MC-1, with a 1.50:1 gear ratio...
Same outdrive used on Merc. V8 motors up to about 1983/4....

An Alpha 1 outdrive, with 1.50:1 gears will bolt onto your transom,+ run just Fine as well...
Alpha 1, GenII will Not...."
