"Hi, Unfortunately I bought a used outdrive with the incorrect worm gear in the upper gear case. Left versus right. Can I change the connection at the steering wheel? When I turn the wheel clockwise the boat goes left. Or do I have to get into the upper gear case and change out the worm gear? Difficult to fix or not? Thanks, Bobz"

"I flipped one at the steering wheel (helm) but you need the room under the dash. And, even when you flip the drum over at the helm, you will need to drill a new hole through the steering wheel shaft as the hole in the drum is offset.
Probably easier to swap components in the upper gearcase of the drive.
Whether it's hard or easier depends on your ability."

"Thanks for the advice Hy Stat! The boat is a cuddy cabin with two access doors to the area behind the steering wheel. If I make the change in the upper gear case of the outdrive, do I have to remove the out drive or is it just a matter of unbolting the top cover plate? Please advise and thanks again! Bob Z"
