"Hi guys, first off, great site. Hope to use it for some good resources for my motor and also hope to learn enough to contribute some info to others.

I saved this little motor from the dump and hoped to learn from it and get it running.

Hoped you might be able to identify it for me. Any of the plates on it are worn away except for the number #1774

Here are some pics.

Please let me know if you have any idea as to what it might be. Currently, it has good compression but no spark.

Thanks

Sherriff"

"my guess would be an early-70

"my guess would be an early-70s Eska, 3 or 3.5 horse. it looks very similar to my 3.5, albeit older, and the motor head looks like one of the Tecumseh 2-strokes Eska used. you might try taking shroud off and see if you see a metal tag with some #s attached to the engine itself...look for a # in the format"xxx-xx". this will be the Tecumseh engine # and will be enough to let you probably find parts at local mower shop.
even if you strike out ID'ing motor, you might try pulling the ignition components and take em with you to mower shop to see if they can match em, as many of these cheaper old motors used same or similar stuff."
