"I have a 150 johnson which revs fine when i run it in a tank but when i take the boat out on the water it won't rev past 1500rpm, it starts to choke it self up, it only seems to do this when theres a load on it. Could this be Fuel pump? ignition timing? Power packs? compression is good and even on all 6 cyldrs. it also backfires alot when trying to start, Please reply with your thoughts! thanks"

"I would venture to say that nearly all of the performance and repair issues seen here are related to gunked up, plugged carbs. Has the boat been sitting long? When was the last time they were cleaned?"

not likly timing. unless someone played with it. O.M.C. very finicky. sink.& link. must be exactly right for good perfomance.
