"First of all, put some 2-stroke oil down the plug holes and check that it turns over when you pull the cord. Then, check it has compression.

If it does then take the carbs apart and clean them out, run carby cleaner through all the jets and galleries to makes sure they are clean and if not then clean them.

Then check the gearbox oil and the state of the water pump impellor (it may well be rotten after all that time so replace it).

Check to see if it has a spark and if it does (or once you have fixed it) then put some fresh gas in, hook it up to a water barrel or a transom and try to start it.

Good luck!"

I will follow your procedure.

I will follow your procedure. This will be used as an aux long shaft. Had the chance of buying a 7.5 hp sailor on ebay Aust $400.00 let that one go. But came across [ in the flesh]a working sailor 180 with spare every thing and bought it for Aust $180.00 . Very happy and then two days later bought an evinrude 6HP sailor Aust $250.00 [in the flesh].I consider these two good investments. All three are going to be great companion motors . Thank You
