I have a 1947 5hp

"Hi all,

I have a 1947 5hp Sea King, made by Gale I believe, question is it currently has Champion J8 plugs in it, old ones, that have a thumbscrew holding the plug wires to the plugs. I am wanting to replace the plugs, but am having difficulty finding plugs that have the threaded tops - seems like J8s are not made any more and the autolite replacement does not have threaded tops. I have ordered some NGK hoping these do, but am concerned that they might be a different thread. any suggestions?"

"Does the smooth end not just unscrew to expose the threads? I haven't tried in some time, but remember having to do that with some of my old motors. I might make a trip back to the shed and give one a try..."

"I wish it did, i tried this at the dealer, and they are no longer like they used to be. Used to be that they did unscrew not they are fixed, hence, trying the NGK as the dealer thinks they still come the old way.
