My trim on my 1969 outdrive go

My trim on my 1969 outdrive goes down fine but whne I go up it only goes a little then stops. What should I check first. The boat has not been in the wtaer for about 3 years.

"that's not trim, that&#39

"that's not trim, that's "high tilt" and should only be used for trailering. If you raise the drive and use that function for trim, you will destroy your ball gears and upper gearbox in very short order. (10 to 20 minutes).

As far as what to check:

-grease the trunnion bearings - probably the issue on a boat that has sat - just old hard grease in the bearings

- clean (sandpaper until shiny) all terminals and posts at relay for tilt

- drain clutch oil reservoir to check for water and gucky oil and refill with clean oil"

"Thank you for the info. This

"Thank you for the info. This is the first OMC I have owned.
When you say drain clutch oil are you refering to the out drive oil, or is there a seperate reservoir for the high tilt?"

"seperate reservoir port side,

"seperate reservoir port side, the squarish lump with the gear coming out of it that meshes with the quadrant gear. the clutch is in there. drain/fill plug on the bottom, level plug on side. Takes motor oil.

You want to look for an OMC manual on eBay or somewhere."
