I have a 38 hatteras with twin
I have a 38 hatteras with twin 6-71 inline 485hp. Had the boat out this weekend and it ran great 2100 rpms giving me 20kts. On my way home I was doing 9kts against the swell @ 1500rpms. When I increase power in the harbor to 1800 and 1900 rpms I could not get past 10-12kts. Even at 2000rpms I was only getting 12ktns and black smoke. The smoke stopped when I lowered the RPMS. Can someone give me an idea what may case the loss of speed at the high rpms? Could it be the Racors? I filled up my fuel tank in Mexico and did not put additive in the tank.
