1994 40 coil fires on one plug

1994 40 coil fires on one plug. I can swap plug wires and it fires the other cylinder. Only one wire and a groung wire on coil. Puzzle me

"How does the coil with only one wire know which cylinder to fire on? I know that is a dumb question but, I guess it was bothering me so ASK the expert.
