Milky gear oil

1989 Cobra.For the second year

1989 Cobra.For the second year my gear oil is slightly milky.Pressure test and vacuum OK.There is a Merc style reservoir system installed.I now suspect the line that runs from the dipstick hole the the container inside the boat. Has anyone had a similar problem? Advice?

which hole are you pressure and vac testing it through?

check the plug seal on that plug...see where I'm going with that? it passes...then you put that plug back and it leaks...

"I remove the reservoir hose from the dipstick hole and plug the hole,then test through the center(fill)hole.I used all new seals on the reservoir hose fittings.May be time to change the hose and fittings. Did OMC manufacture a reservoir system? As I said mine is a merc."

during your press/vac tests, make sure you rotate the prop shaft...also rotate the input shaft during the tests

a slightly bent prop shaft will seal when it's still, but will oscillate at speed and the seal lip can't follow it fast enough"
