"I can run motor for about 10 minutes, water empties from tell tale fine, then, begins to blow steam from tell tale instead of water, motor heats up, alarm goes off. Could this be a water pump (2 yrs old, ran fine when put away for the winter), thermostat? both?"
 
Could be both. Pull the pump a

Could be both. Pull the pump and replace it especially if you run in dirty water alot.
Could be a head gasket. Pull the plugs and see if one of them looks like it has been steamed cleaned. Do a compression ck.

"We replaced the water pump, it ran fine with the muffs on, I'm just wondering if I should pull the exhaust manifold, clean out the water passages inside there and replace the gaskets as there is water that leaks from around some of the bolts on the exhaust manifold plate. Not much water, but drips every few minutes from 3 or 4 bolts. What do you think?"
