Just replaced the riser gasket

Just replaced the riser gaskets today on my 1985 Trophy that has a Chev 5.0/305cid engine. My question is am I supposed to use some Permatex or other hi-temp gasket sealer on those gaskets or can they just be put on plain (That's what I did)? Both the manifold and riser faces were polished clean and checked level. Thanks!

"I always coat them with perma

"I always coat them with permatex grey, but they actually are supposed to go on dry and clean "by the book". My newer Mercruiser actually uses a muffler cement which is totally bizarre, but I guess the other sealants aren't really rated for exhaust temps."

"Hy Stat,

Thanks. Just want

"Hy Stat,

Thanks. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong. Last owner had 2 gaskets on one side and one gasket on the other with standard silicon sealer on both sides, go figure!"
