"Why is it so important to remove the out drive for the winter season. This is my first boat with out drives, always had inbords."

"Depends on what kind of drives you have but this gives you access to areas for visual inspection as well as maintenance that you otherwise can't see or do. For example you can grease the ujoints on the drive shaft, can inspect the rubber bellows they go through for wear, inspect/feel the gimbal bearing and replace if necessary. Check the shift cable adjustments, etc, etc."
