"I have bought a 2006 Chapprall 5.0 Mercruiser with a missing outdrive. What outdrive should be used for this application? how difficult is it to replace. New to boating, so be kind

Probably an Alpha 1. What happened to the original drive? Stolen? Torn off in a collision w/a rock/stump? A collision may have damaged the gimbal; get it checked.

A new or reman. Alpha drive is not cheap. A new drive from SEI is about $1,400."

If the drive was torn off you

If the drive was torn off you are better off having a qualified shop look at it before you spend more money fixing something that might break again due to something you missed. gear ratio should be 1.47 I believe.

Just run the Serial # of the transom assembley...."

2006 would be an Alpha Gen II.
The SEI 116 is the direct bolt on replacement.

The ratio used with all small block V-8's is 1.47
