"We have a 2001 Chaparral 230 SSi, 5.7 L Mercruiser Engine with about 1,000 hours on it.

It is back firing at higher speeds (around 3000 RPM). We added a fuel additive to see if it was bad gas but had no change. We had the Mariana give it a complete tune up with plugs, rotor, gaskets, air filter cleaning, gas filter, etc. However, it still backfires intermittently. We ran the gas almost completely out and added new fuel from a regular gas station but again no change. Any ideas? Jamie"
