"I am still purchasing lubes/etc. for the stern drive (need more hi-vis) but I have greases I need for steering linkage and whatever else is INSIDE engine compartment.

Because I'm such a newb I can't really find how to grease steering (I sometimes hear a squeak when turning hard left or right). Clymer (or Seloc) mentions lubing this but there is no real picture to speak of.

I have a 1985 Galaxy Day Cruiser with OMC 800 stern unit.

Also...do you think it w/be possible to change/refill stern drive oil (int. housing, upper and lower) with boat on lift or would I definitely need to trailer it onto ground first.

thanks,

mike"

"If a True-course steering, it is most likely Bushing #9 starting to act up.
I have seen a couple with grease fittings, but mostly the steering shaft has to be removed, and that is a story by itself. Has to be done from behind and outside. Bellow must be removed from transom.

"as far as servicing on a lift, it's a judgement call, but I wouldn't have a clear conscience about it....it's a messy job- almost impossible to catch all oil - especially on a windy day- if land is possible it's better"
