OMC 800 powertrim motor

"working on a 80 something cob

"working on a 80 something cobalt 305 chevey 4v, I have 12volts to the powertrim selinode 9volts to the motor, I unscrewed the the retainer for the wires but they will not pull off the motor, I really believe I have a bad conection. secondly I was wondering about removing the motor but I am not sure If i need to suppourt the engine. will it drop? next problem I encounterd on the engine mount is a plastic plate with a small gear that rotates a variable resister. I assume that it is some sort of limiter for the trim motor. at some point someone monkeyed with the wiring and twisted the leads togather bypassing the resister. any suggestions, Thanks"

"Sounds like you have the worm

"Sounds like you have the worm screw jack type trim, not hydraulic...the plastic arm is for an optional trim position gauge on the dash with either type though.
The engine shouldn't drop if you remove only the motor. The mechanical advantage of the worm drive should hold it"
