Yamaha 130 very difficult to start from cold

"i have just purchased a boat fitted with a 130 hp yamaha serial no 057503, it is almost impossible to start from cold and will flatten at least 2 batteries before i eventually starts,once it sarts it blows a lot of white smoke for about i min. The engine seems to be in otherwise good condition and runs fine once started"

"why not check to see if the choke is working and not stuck and that the throttle plates are synchronised, easy to check , always check the basics first."
