Can anyone tell me what determ

Can anyone tell me what determines the horsepower rating on the merc. in-line 3.7 engines. It can't just be carburetion alone. Are the cams different also???
 
You could do some research and

You could do some research and find out if the cams and other pn's are different for the different models. I suspect you will find it is just carburetion. Merc has also used variously propshaft hp and crank hp for different models at various times. This makes the whole hp rating thing very difficult to compare.
