"Is there a limit to how far in the water an outboard should sit for optimum performance and speed. I have a 83 Four Winns, 18 foot fiberglass with a 150hp Merc. The motor is so far in the water that when under way you can not even tell its pumping water because its almost that far into the water. I do not believe the motor is in danger of getting swamped but it does create a splash that is not normal and sprays a V shape off the motor that rises above the back of the boat.
What I believe to be right would be raising the motor about 12" straight up. The transom should just be taller in my opinion. I see no signs of this having been fabricated. It looks completely stock."
