cheap and expensive.
Dirty connections of cables, either at battery or at starter or at ground. Disconnect and clean ALL.
Weak or dying battery. Have it tested.
Surface rust in solenoid chamber inhibiting movement for the switch. Failed starter solenoid. Replace.
Starter bad - will work sometimes but needs replacement or rebuild (it usually comes with new solenoid).
Slave solenoid bad. Ignition switch bad.
Engine hydrolocked.
Any combination of the above.

Start with the cheap items and eliminate, moving to the more expensive."

"You have 2 solenoids in the starting curcit.
The first one is a SLAVE solenoid. The second is the STARTER solenoid.
When you turn the key to the crank position it activates the slave solenoid, Usually found on the front left side of the engine.
from there the starter solenoid is activeated.

You need to determine which solenoid is faulty.
