"Am rebuilding a 1973, 6v53 from bottom up. Block is excellent, crank fits like a glove.

Problem is play in the cam. Measurements are: Cam Bore 2.375 (on speck), Cam 2.182 (on speck), Cam Bearing 2.189.

Gap is .007. Speck calls for .004 to .006. Too much play from my limited perspective. Can actually "feel" play when cam is inserted into the bearings.

Have tried two sets of bearings with same result.

Question: Is this too much play? If so, what can I do about it?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated."

should be able to buy oversize

should be able to buy oversize bearing .002 over and this will make sure you have this problem taken care of.
I agree if you can feel it it is most likely to much and over the limit.

I just looked in my book

J.

I just looked in my book it says the "Limit" is
.006 so you are clearly over. It also says the minimum is .0025 and the max is .0040

I would not take the chance with it being .007 like you said.

Detroit has bearing to fix this right. And If I had the money I would just have the cam fixed with the new bearing to fit right.

hope this helps out.
