"I wrote previously about my '95 Sea Ray with 7.4L and Bravo III outdrive. The clutch assembly is worn causing shifting issues, but the engine/outdrive have less than 300 hours. I am told that there was a design flaw in the upper unit and that is why Merc only sells the "upgrade shift kit" for approx $1,200 as opposed to the individual replacement parts. I am essentially paying for what should have been a recall or warranty issue. What can you tell me about this please?"

Your drive is 13 yrs old. don't you think the R&D dept. has made upgrades?
the Upgraded shift "kit" is just that, an upgrage from the original design. It containes a stronger lowerbearing tower , resized top and bottom bearings and a ramped shift lever.
I don't see the recall or warranty issue you speak of."
