"just put in a new(to me)7.4. I bought it used rebuilt 2 tears ago. Standard 454/330 Gen V block. It has a DUI marine ignition, electric fuel pump and marine demon carb. I was told it shoud start and run fine. Well no problem starting it but I cant get the idle douwn below 1500 rpm. when I try it stalls right out stutters a few times and pops ( backfires) through the carb just before it stops. there is no noticable popping or backfiring at higher rpms. I tried a different carb( quadrajet)
with the same results. need some help?
timing ? carb? Distributor? all of the above???"
