"Hello i,m new to this board.I have several quetions
1.does the red wire of my prestolite dist(260a,chev v-8) go to the pos of my coil and the
black wire to neg or vice-versa.
2.What ohm coil should be used. Also does a balast
resistor need to be used.
I have just repowered from a aq140 to a aq 260a
and can not find a wire dia. that shows this.
thank you in advance for your help/input."

"1) If you have a red and a black wire going into the distributor, then I assume it has been converted to electronic ignition (Pertronix), as the original had points and was therefore single wire (black). So, if you have a Pertronix electronic ignition module installed in your distributor, then the red wire goes to the (+) of the coil and the black to the (-) of the coil. Check this:

http://www.pertronix.com/support/manuals/pdf/ignitor12vneg.pdf

2) If you have a Pertronix electronic ignition module installed, then use a 1.5 ohm coil and no ballast resistor. Check this for reference:

http://www.pertronix.com/catalogs/pdf/ptx/2007/ptx07_coil.pdf

3) You can download the operator's manual from here. It has the wiring diagram, but it does not include the modifications for electronic ignition (refer to the first link in this post for that).

"thanks for the info. You are correct it is an electronic dist although not a pertronix conversion,it came from prestolite as an electronic dist.Does the info you gave also hold
true for this dist."
