"I have a 1985 26' SeaRay

"I have a 1985 26' SeaRay with a 260 Mercruiser rwc, the oil pressure gauge reads low at idle just above the red warning strip. When I accelerate the gauge goes up but it never goes above half the gauge. Is this normal??? Thanks in advance"
 
One easy way to test would be

One easy way to test would be to substitute a mechanical oil p guage for the electric sender and test run it in the driveway with muffs providing water to the outdrive. This would give you a pressure reading instead of just a "L" or "H".
