Bravo III grinding noise when engaged

"My 1997 7.4mpi with Bravo III

"My 1997 7.4mpi with Bravo III, started to make a big humming noise when I put it in gear, boat runs fine but I can't figure out If it's the sterndrive or the gimbal bearing but ther is no noise at Idle....any clue?"

The Gimbel bearing turns All the time the motor is running....
If you only get the noise when In gear,...
It's gotta be the Lower unit.....

Have you checked the Oil in it,..??"

"Thank you for your help, I'll take the boat out and check oil, but my oil tank for the drive is still full...might not be only the oil. Can I rebuild lower unit myself...does it required special unique tool?"
