"I just aquired a 1981 Bayline

"I just aquired a 1981 Bayliner with 954hrs on the meter. It ran like a top until today. When I tried to start the engine it wouldn't fire and sounded like it had no compression. The cam belt isn't broken, but it or the rotor in the distributer won't move when I crank the engine over. Any suggestions? Thanks, Wally"

"It looks like the timing belt

"It looks like the timing belt is no good (probably a few teeth are broken), and the crankshaft cannot turn the cam or the distributor."

"If your rotor isn't turni

"If your rotor isn't turning, it's likely the belt as El Pescador says. I had to replace a timing belt on a Dodge Caravan 3.0 one time ( and one time is enough for anybody with that engine)
, and the non-rotating distributor rotor was the clue that it was the belt. It was completely snapped...but still looked and felt fine from any inspection point."
