55HP 1985 engine runs rough and uses excessive fuel

I recently bought what I think

I recently bought what I think is an 85 or 86 55HP 2stroke. It runs rough like it is missing and seems to use way too much fuel. I have adjusted what I think are the idle screws on each carburator and also replaced the spark plugs. It will still get to 4000 RPM at Wide Open and sounds smooth there but at around 3000RPM or below it seems like it is missing. Any ideas on this one. Other than that the engine seems to start OK. Anyone have any idea how much fuel they use. I did less than 10 miles and used around 5 gallons which seems really high for a 55HP.

Six gallons of fuel at WOT. Your running the engine over 1000 RPM below what it is designed to be run at. Sounds like it is very sick. You need to take it to a dealer or get a service manual and start at page 1.
