"I am rebuilding my US Navy LCPL powered by a DD 671T. She has a large V drive built by Precision Vee Drives (?. The oil in this drive is cooled by a separate small shell and tube Young H/E which has raw water flowing through it.

Before the oil reached the H/E there is a filter which consists of lots of small metal "blades" packed together and there is a handle on top of the filter housing presumable to allow these "blades" to be roatated to clean them.

Well, it's all rusted up and needs replacing. Where can I get one and/or do I really need the filter if I keep a schedule of chaning the oil in the drive when I change the engine oil."
