Mercruiser losing power after 2030 mins running time

I have a 1978 mercruiser stern

I have a 1978 mercruiser sterndrive (305v8 w/198hp) that starts to lose power and stall
after 20-30mins running time. Will drop down to
about 1800 rpms from any higher rpms and then
start running poorly and begin stalling.
Will run fine if you put in Neutral but as soon
as you go back into gear she will start to stall
again. Any suggestions ??

"Sound like coil as rod states, but could also be fuel related. change filter, clean inlet screen,
and check tank vent line for clogs or low spot
holding fuel.
May also consider full tune-up including plugs, ignition cables, cap, rotor, and points if equiped.

Thanks for the advice. I will go for coil first.
I changed out fuel filter at carb and added an
in-line fuel filter between fuel tank and fuel/water seperator so I do not believe fuel is the issue
