"I have volunteered to help an elderly} deaf gentleman find a part for this very old outboard (porbably 1980's). But I'm in Boston and he's in the Caribbean so communication is tough. One place I wrote to said this wasn't the serial number of Nissan/Tohatsu motor. The part called ?EXCITER COIL? goes under the flywheel and has 2 wires coming out of it, shaped like "a banana with many pieces of thin steel riveted together and a center coil of copper wire with two ends, one end coming out of each end of banana". If anyone knows what this part is, where I might find a replacement for such an old model or any other pertinent information I would be very grateful. Thanks
