"Well I did buy the boat and noticed that after a wide open run the port engine got hot and started spewing steam out of it. I shut it down and cruised home on the other engine. I fired it back up when cooled and same deal, started getting hot. I did notice, though that the pressure cooling cap on the top of the engine was loose. Could a loose cap cause the engine to overheat or am I looking at a more serious problem? I'm a competent mechanic and so I would like to find a repair manual that explains the engine and its fittings so I can repair it. Supposedly the engines were both recently rebuilt. They are 4 cylinder inline 181's how do I find information on them? The outdrives are OMC 400's. Thanks, Roy"

You probably have lost the raw water cooling. The impeller for that is in the drive! What do you mean by pressure cooling cap? Is it a twin circuit coolng?
