I HAVE A 1976 OMC STERDRIVE.

I HAVE A 1976 OMC STERDRIVE. I AM NEW TO BOATING AND TRYING TO LEARN THINGS. I AM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHERE THE WATER INTAKE (TO COOL THE ENGINE) AND THE EXHAUST IS LOCATED ON THE STERNDRIVE. I WANT TO DO SOME WORK ON THE BOAT IN MY DRIVEWAY BUT CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHERE TO HOOK THE WATER UP TO FOR THE ENGINE WILL STAY COOL WHEN I RUN IT OUT OF THE WATER.

"Water inntake is just above the propeller underneath the anti ventilation plate. Exhaust comes out at the rear of the anti ventilation plate. Note that some exhaust may come out between the drive and the intermediate housing if the drive is not fully down and/or the rubber seal-ring is missing. Do not run water straight to the engine as this may burn out the water pump impeller in the drive. There are however 'kit' awailable that replaces one of the side covers and let you put the water hooose there. Gives enough 'leak water' to lubricate the impeller and cool the engine, but no indication of impeller pump pressure/condition."
