Is it possible to swap an alph

Is it possible to swap an alpha one MR with a later model. The only difference seems to be the preload pin. can the pin be removed? There is also an oring on the shaft. Any suggestions?
 
Are you trying to put a newer

Are you trying to put a newer Alpha One lower gear unit onto an older upper gearcase?

The preload pin was done away with later units.
The o-ring groove carried right thru and is a weak link in the Alpha Ones and pre-Alphas; but only if you are into higher hp.
You can put a later Alpha One lower onto an older R or MR upper.

You can't use an Alpha Gen II lower (1991 on) at all.

For about 1300 bucks you can buy a brand new SEI replacement 106 drive leg that will bolt right in and comes with a warranty. Might be your best bet for troublefree boating.
